Selangor, 31 March 2016 – Linde Malaysia, a subsidiary of The Linde Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Malaysia’s national road safety department, Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya Malaysia (JKJR), to jointly launch athree-year road safety campaign that aims to raise the awareness of keeping motorcyclists safe on the roads throughout the country.
Under the MOU, Linde Malaysia is the main sponsor to fund the campaign “Visibility Makes a Difference”. The campaign focuses on educating motorcyclists on the importance of increasing their visibility to other road users by practicing safe riding behaviours and wearing safety helmets with reflective strips and high visibility vests.
“At Linde, safety is at the top of our business agenda and we believe that all incidents are preventable when everyone takes responsibility for their own safety and that of others - be it at home, at work or on the roads. This campaign by JKJR aims to create that awareness among road users, especially motorcyclists who are the most vulnerable, about how every one of us can keep our roads safe by looking out for one another. As a company, we are always ready to support efforts to make a difference to Malaysians and this campaign is one that is close to our hearts and our safety priorities,” says Andy Cook, Head of Safety, Health, the Environment and Quality (SHEQ) for Linde’s business in South Asia and ASEAN.
“Our mission at JKJR is to advocate for safer roads in Malaysia, through educational outreach efforts and public service awareness campaigns. The number of motorcycles on the roads has been increasing over the years, and they remain the most vulnerable of all road users. Royal Malaysia Police statistics state that motorcyclists account for about more than 60% of all road accidents in Malaysia every year. This 3-year campaign, ‘Visibility Makes a Difference’ is aimed at motorcyclists on how they can keep themselves safer by making themselves more visible on the roads through safer riding behaviours and protective clothings,” says Abd Ghafar Bin Yusof, Director General Malaysia Road Safety Department (JKJR).
The “Visibility makes a difference” campaign kicks off on 31 March to all 13 states.
